I am truly proud to be in IT
We often see descriptions such as ’helping customers…’ or ’making a difference…’ instead of good old titles like Solution Engineer (SE) or Sales Consultant. After twelve years in my pre-sales role, I’m as enthusiastic as ever about value selling and presentation skills, because I believe that ’people buy from people’. The SE can make a big impact during a sales cycle, and we get to be more detailed and hands-on, which is what I love about it.
As a product specialist in a sales organisation, I have both internal and external customers to find the best fit for, and great variety which is why I’ve stayed in this role for so long. My work week includes activities like discovery meetings to find customers’ pain points that we then present solutions to, using everything from automation, control and sustainability, to chatbots and AI agents to create a modern and beautiful user experience.
I wanted to leave the decision of what to do when I grow up as late as possible and I wanted to see the world, so I first studied Industrial Engineering and Management with an international profile, and then when I completed my master thesis in Logistics in 2005 and trainee programs were the trendy thing, I became a trainee at a Swedish IT company called Intentia, to learn how to implement ERP systems.
I spent 9 years in the same office but the company name changed a couple of times as we grew – and I also fulfilled my wish to travel, working with many different customers, local, regional, and global. Even if it seems like a steady course from my first job to my second job to today, starting in IT was not a given, but it has turned out to be a career that continues to inspire, giving the right amount of challenges and a work-life balance that suits me.
Finally, I’d like to share an experience from when I, as part of Oracle Women’s Leadership in Denmark, hosted ’Girls’ Day in Science’, and some of my colleagues presented their backgrounds and roles in the company – real diversity and variety, same as what you can read in ‘Min vej til IT-univers’. I am truly proud to be in IT.
